An outstanding micro lot from Pocho Gallardo’s Finca Nuguo

The Nuguo Geisha Natural (Fermented) is an outstanding micro lot from Café Gallardo’s 2023 harvest. Finca Nuguo’s high altitude location proves challenging to grow and harvest the cherries, hence the small size of these lots. 

The harvested cherries were fermented at 32°C for around 3.5-4 days and dried in a temperature-controlled room at 24°C and 60% humidity. When the beans reach 14% humidity, they are further dried at 28°C until they reache 11% humidity. Next, the beans are put into black bags and stored at 23°C.

Origin

Finca Nuguo is situated between 1,750 and 1,950 m.a.s.l., specifically in the area of Jurutungo, Renacimiento, Chiriquí, which is nestled between the largest natural rainforest reserve in Central America – La Amistad International Park – and the Costa Rican border.

Cherries in our Nuguo Geisha Natural lot were harvested from several planted lots within Finca Nuguo, mainly from a 2-hectare lot called 'Colubre', at an elevation of 1,920 m.a.s.l. Other lots include 'Casa' and 'Escondida'.

About Cafe Gallardo

Café Gallardo started when José Gallardo’s father came to the region in 1960 and started to plant coffee. At that time, the Gallardo family farms only produced Caturra and Catuai coffee varieties at lower elevations until about sixteen years ago when José saw the potential of Nuguo and started growing Geisha varietal coffee plants.

The secret of Nuguo’s success is owed to José Gallardo’s hard work, dedication and near obsession to grow and process exceptional specialty coffee as well as his wife Aileene’s creative flavour inspiration.

Café Gallardo’s coffee has been awarded several top spots in the Best of Panama Exotic Washed, Exotic Natural and Innovation categories in 2015, 2016 and 2020. Café Gallardo was winner of the Best of Panama Cup 2021 and obtained 1st and 2nd Place for Nuguo Geisha Natural and Washed respectively.
