A clean cup – Finca Lérida Geisha Washed Lot 5

This Geisha washed hails from the legendary Finca Lérida. One of our favourite places to visit whilst in Boquete, this farm is steeped in history yet keeping up with the times. This Lot was exclusively reserved for our trip to CafeEx Shanghai in December 2023 and proved to be one of our hot-ticket items during the cupping sessions and sold out by the end of the show.

Origin

Finca Lérida is one of the oldest coffee producers in Boquete, Chiriquí. It has been producing coffee for a century. Founded in 1924 by ex-Panama Canal engineer Toleff Bache Mönniche from Norway who built the first coffee plantation by gravity in Panama. He also designed and patented the “sifon”, a device made to separate good beans from the bad. This device is being used worldwide by many coffee plantations and it is still working in Finca Lérida where Mönniche’s old processing plant still processes coffee of excellent quality. The farm’s current owners are the Amoruso family.

The Estate is conformed by five farms located in altitudes ranging between 1,500 and 2,000 meters above sea level. Thanks to its special microclimate, Lérida Estate is able to grow different arabica varietals, many of which are award-winning crops.

Finca Lérida coffee has won many awards, the most recent being 1st Place at the 2017 Specialty Coffee Association of Panama (SCAP) cupping competition, in the Traditional Washed category (Catuai – Moi Honey – receiving 89.735 points).
