The month of July brought us two exceptional lots from Café Gallardo. We have been collaborating with Pocho since the launch of our venture back in 2021, so we are thankful for his continued willingness to reserve some of the Finca’s finest yield.

June was a busy month for producers in Panama, with the 2024 edition of Best of Panama competition taking place. A happy conclusion for Café Gallardo was clinching 3rd place in the 'Lavado' process with its Nuguo Geisha Washed achieving a score of 94.63 SCA points.

A sister lot of the Nuguo Geisha Washed was cupped and roasted in Hong Kong by our friends at Craft. This sweet, floral and citrusy lot boasts a profile of Calendula, Calamansi, and Honey. 

On the other hand, we have a second lot, Jurutungo Geisha Natural (Fermented) with a flavour profile of Mulberry, Mangosteen, and Dark chocolate. 

Origin

The Gallardo family has been dedicated to cultivating coffee in Jurutungo, Renacimiento region since 1960, passing down their expertise through generations. While Finca Nuguo is the apple of Pocho Gallardo's eye, Finca Jurutungo is lovingly managed by his aunts, sisters Damaris and Dafsne Gallardo, daughters of founder Jose Manuel Gallardo.

The two fincas are located in the Jurutungo region, in the enchanting Piedra Candela area of Renacimiento, Chiriquí province, Panamá. “Piedra Candela” roughly translates as 'firestone', a clear reference to its volcanic location.

Starting at 1,600-1,950 m.a.s.l. meters above sea level, the Estate is surrounded by pristine nature. Nestled in volcanic soil and virgin forests, the area is bathed by Pacific and Atlantic winds and rain, all of which contribute to the unique flavour profile of the coffee grown here.

Café Gallardo’s coffee has been awarded several top spots in the Best of Panama Washed, Natural and Innovation categories in 2015, 2016 and 2020. Winner of the Best of Panama Cup 2021 and obtained 1st and 2nd Place for Nuguo Geisha Natural and Washed respectively. In 2024, Nuguo Geisha Washed earned 3rd place at the BoP competition.
